Why Your Family Needs Sunday School

​Something about the phrase “Sunday School” makes us think about going to church when we were a kid.

Different churches have abandoned the Sunday School model for discipleship groups or small groups at homes. While I have no problem with either of those two models, I do think to get rid of Sunday School is a mistake. Sunday School plays an important part in the life and spiritual maturation of a believer. Maybe your church has Sunday School but your family doesn’t attend because you would rather go to the main service or you don’t attend because it is difficult to get your family ready in time. Whatever the case may be I want to give you three reasons on why your family needs Sunday School.
 
Sunday School adds a deeper level of fellowship
We all need to be in a body of believers but in the Sunday morning service it can be easy to slip in and slip out of the service without even talking to another person. Sunday School gives your family a deeper level of fellowship. It puts you right next to people around the same age going through different situations but with the same belief that we need God’s help. The fellowship that Sunday School provides reminds me of running with a friend. Those believers in that class will help you to run the race and finish the work that Christ has started. Those believers will be a source of encouragement for you and your family during difficult times. Those believers don’t just want to be your help but they need you to be theirs as well.
 
Sunday School helps us grow in spiritual maturity
Going to Sunday School helps us to grow in spiritual maturity because it gives us another opportunity to dive into God’s Word. During the Sunday sermon there is no time for feedback or questions, Sunday School gives us an opportunity to ask why or how. It allows us to dive into God’s Word with other believers and to hear other voices speak from the Bible. You can never have too much Bible study and Sunday School is something that is already built into the life of the church so why not attend? You are already coming for the main service, come make the most of your Sundays and get more time in God’s Word.
 
Sunday School is good for your family
As much as we like to pretend that we can give our kids all they need, God has given the church to be a support for our families. Your kids need friends that are there age who have the same beliefs. Your wife needs other women to help them to grow to be a godly wife and woman. Your husband needs other men to help him be a godly husband and man. Your family needs Sunday School because it gives us so much that we desperately need. It gives us the opportunity to walk with more believers. It gives us friends who know us deeper than just surface level. It gives us more time with the body of Christ.
 
Don’t miss out on an opportunity to be with the body of Christ. Go to Sunday School and enjoy the blessing of spending more time with the body of Christ.
